Baby Namings
The first of the 613 commandments in the Torah is pru ur’vu – be fruitful and multiply, from the book of Genesis [1:28]. We celebrate the bringing of new, young life into the covenant of the Jewish people with much joy.
Baby naming ceremonies are known to be for girls, but can also be for boys, particularly if they’ve had circumcision in a hospital or if there will not be one. They can be held almost anytime, anywhere, though traditionally, families like to have them done during a Torah reading.
Rabbi Gordy helps families choose a Hebrew name for the new child and design a customized ceremony to meet the specific needs and desires of the family.
Costs may vary depending on the length of the ceremony, distance, etc., but generally run around $500.
